Greetings Friends!
We are getting ready to come home to Canada! And after a four and a half year term, our plans are to be home for one year! But there's a lot to do before we get those passports stamped!
There's are a number of farewells and some last experiences (for Seth) too!
By now our Bonfield house will be empty. We have some work to do to get settled in Canada, but we also need to get our Ukarumpa home ready to rent! We are ready to be home though!...And, that's Seth's friend, not an extra son! |
The boys ran, jumped and threw hard on "Sports day". A Track and Field day that happens in May.
This year was a bit different. Of the two teams in the school, the blue team (Beta) won, but later, our boys celebrated an error that gave "Alpha the win! |
The school also hosted one last evening of music. Steven plays trumpet in the band, and Seth's class put on a special vocal arrangement that was wonderful!
It was very enjoyable, seeing our boys share their talents and training! |
The two boys are finishing up exams this week.
The parents of the graduating class, also organized a "Blessing Ceremony". A special evening where parents proclaim a special blessing over their child and pray for them. |
Jeremy completed his final jobs before furlough. One of which, a missionary's vehicle, barely made it home without catastrophic failure! The rear differential required a complete rebuild. Tanya also completed her final shift at the Clinic.
We also hosted our last Video Sunday School, our weekly bible study (hosted in our home) and Jeremy will complete his last leadership training segment with SIL Global. |
We're packing! So let's see..."What do we ship home if we can't return (we have done this before every furlough)" Also. "Jeremy." "Do you want to bring any tools home with you?" "Not too much, they're heavy!" And..."Can we empty the freezer yet?" |
Seth did a co-op at the airstrip, and he got to fly with one of the pilots. The flight included landing on a mountainous airstrip, an 8 degree incline! The pilots here are very excited about Seth's interest in flying! |
We've been waiting a long time for this! Caleb and Madison's wedding! What a wonderful couple! We are so excited! And, proud! It's set for the 28th of June; so really, only weeks away! Many of us have been counting the days! |
Praise with us:
- Caleb and Madison are getting married in only a few weeks!
- We are thankful for all the Lord has done in and through us in this difficult, but rewarding term in Papua New Guinea.
- Steven and Seth are finishing well!
- Jeremy and Tanya finished all the projects they were responsible for.
- For all the Lord is doing here in Papua New Guinea!
Pray with us:
- Pray for our family as we wrap things up here before furlough and get settled in Canada.
- Pray for Seth as he says good bye to his childhood home, school and friends.
- Pray can get renters in our Ukaurmpa house.
- Pray for stamina for all the "lasts" and work involved as we head home.
- Pray for the Shop and the Clinic who will feel our absence.
Thank you for your prayer, gifts and encouragement,
Jeremy, Tanya, Seth and Steven |

Hello friends!
As we continue to serve here, we are realizing the near end of our 4+ year term. We have begun to reflect on our time here and the future ahead. We are very thankful to the Lord for you, and send warm greetings. We also look forward to seeing many of you when we return. |
Looking back on the last 4 years, there are memories of many accomplishments, joys and those times of strain and loss.
We can't recount our PNG life without remembering how so many bless us in numerous ways. Yes, you! We want to say thank you! We know that people pray and also give, sacrificially. God is good! And He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory!
Below we'll share some more recent events in our lives. |
Seth is part of an important group of people here in Ukarumpa...The Graduating Class! The Lord has uniquely shaped this young man. He's a "gentle giant" with a strong desire to do what is right. We (along with the community) have learned of his musical talent. He sang "How Many Kings" with his friend (written by the christian band "Down Here") and everyone was shocked and wowed.
His plan is to become a commercial pilot, so please pray for him. He wants to be smart about this route, which is also quite expensive! He is a bit nervous as well, leaving his familiar life for one that is foreign to him. |
Pray also that Seth finds a job. Being that we are not considered residents of Ontario, he cannot apply for OSAP until he's been in Ontario for 6 months. This means he will not be able to go to college right away. He hopes to work, and save for school. |
Steven turned 16 just about a month ago. He is looking forward to seeing his brothers in Canada, being with Grandpa an Grandma...and fishing! |
Steven loves to play sports. We'll have to figure a way for him to play them when we're back in Canada. |
Some of you may remember Tanya's trip to North America in January. Our friends Hollie and Hasso Pape were married and Tanya was able to go to support them with that. Hollie is a Bible Translator for the Gibaio people in Gulf Province, Papua New Guinea. She is one of the people on the front lines which we have tried to help and encourage through the years. Now Married, the work will be easier and likely more effective. She and Hasso are a wonderful couple and we are excited for them!
We decided that since Tanya was in North America, she should go and see our boys and possibly help Caleb and Maddy with wedding plans.
It also helped to see Caleb and Daniel's context and do some mom things for them! They had a number of adventures and Tanya is encouraged at how they are doing. |
They are doing well and have a better idea of how to do life on their own. Daniel was struggling without a car, but he recently got his car on the road, though, after a long battle.
Caleb and Maddy are steadily working on wedding plans. |
We are working hard to finish up here, cleaning, organizing and paring things down. Jeremy finished a Transmission rebuild last month and plans to drop his role of repair supervisor in April as an early transition for the shop. He will be freed up to do more of the technical repairs, yet be available while others take over his previous duties. We plan to take a few days break in Cairns Australia on the way home. The work to close up in PNG then all the cleaning and moving in Canada looks better with a bit of a break in between. Also Seth will not likely be able to visit Australia like this again. When we land in Canada, we will have no car. We have been praying about this point. We know the Lord provides and we (Jeremy) have been doing our best to leave it in His hands. |
The Lord is good! Many today are questioning the reality of a God reigning in the heavens. The complex reality of our being, the deep places within us, even the knowledge and reality of what we recognize as evil or wrong, testifies to one who marks out a standard of goodness and what is true and orderly. The very building blocks of plant life, or even the curl of an ocean wave also show this. But that is only the periphery of His print on our world.
Knowing Him; magnet like, aligns that which long had lost meaning, direction or value. It turns out, we were made for much more then we thought! So...what's broken? II Cor 5:17-21 |
Praise with us:
- The Lord has kept us and taught us many things through this term.
- Seth is finishing well, having learned much, who pushed himself out of what was comfortable.
- Tanya was able to encourage a friend and see our two boys when she went to North America in January. Also, there have not been any medevacs since December.
- Caleb and Daniel are figuring out life in Canada.
Pray with us:
- Pray for Seth and Steven; they're leaving what's familiar and needing to make a new life and friendships in Canada.
- Pray for wisdom in Seth and Steven's schooling next year.
- Pray for us as we search for a car or two (if Seth works full time) when we return.
- Pray we have a renter in our PNG home during our time in Canada.
- Pray for good adjustment with all the transitions for our entire family, and future family.
Thank you for your prayer, gifts and encouragement,
Jeremy, Tanya, Caleb, Daniel, Seth, and Steven |

News From the Tool Box
December 2024

Greetings friends! As we look back on 2024 there's a lot we have seen the Lord doing in our lives. Many times we held a lot of uncertainty. We placed our concerns before the Lord. It is unmistakable! He hears us. We are so thankful, the Lord has cared for our family and answered in so many unique ways! |
Seth and Steven are growing up! and up! These quiet, friendly young men have some cool things going on in their lives. Seth told me the other day that he's 6'3" now! How did that happen?!
Seth being in grade 12, is celebrated in this community. We wish we had room to mention all of what this guy is like. You must meet him!
He has stretched himself working with worship teams, signing up for a drama class (surprising everyone!) and planning what happens next, after graduation.
Seth plans to go to Word of Life Bible Institute next year and possibly a school for his pilot's licence thereafter. God is growing this young man! |
Both Seth and Steven were on the high school soccer team and grew this season. They have worked, and struggled a bit this last term, so they're looking forward to finishing exams just before the Christmas break.
Steven is a quiet lad, yet full of off the cuff one liners that keep us in stitches! He is also very active and part of many sports here. He'll be sixteen in February! I guess that means more driver training for dad!
We have enjoyed going to special events such as Canadian and American Thanksgiving get togethers and other fun events.
Tanya has a lot going on at the moment. Recently she lost her grandfather so she's been connecting with her family more than usual. The Clinic is hopping! We have more doctors, so the schedule reflects that. There's also an increase in sickness lately. As the lead receptionist, she comes home pretty tired! Tanya has also promised to encourage one of her translator friends by attending her wedding in New Jersey this January. We are thankful; one of the groom's supporters, is helping us with the cost. |
Tanya decided that, since she will be in North America, she will come to Canada to visit our two Canadian boys and our future daughter in law for a week or so. This makes things a bit more complicated, but both parties are longing to see each other, so it's exciting to see it unfold. |
As we think of our kids in Canada! Caleb and Daniel have been struggling with the cost of living and getting established in their jobs. We know many of you have been praying! Thank you! We are pleased and blessed! Caleb has some promising options and Daniel was offered an apprenticeship at Northern Honda. If you know anything about the automotive industry, that is not a normal opportunity! Please continue to pray for them. They continue to have big things on their horizons. |
Jeremy's job remains very full. The Lord has helped him fight discouragement, as well as appreciate the opportunity to be helpful and productive. He is enjoying the work and thankful. Recently he got the chance to see a previous coworker open his own shop, which is a hard thing to do here. Jeremy is proud of him. |
Blessings to you all in Christ! We thank God for you! May you be deeply impacted; celebrating the advent of Christ. He ended up being a lot more than a baby. The unique way he entered our realm gave rise to his unexpected purpose, which today, still transforms lives like yours and mine.
We look forward to returning to Canada in June. Lord willing. |
Praise with us:
- The Lord has been providing for Caleb and Daniel as well as the rest of our family.
- There has been more staff at both the clinic and the shop which helps with the work load.
- We have recently seen some victories over discouragement.
- That the Lord is working here, and He has asked us to be part of it! What an honour!
Pray with us:
- Please pray for the missionaries here. Discouragement has been high, and sometimes being on the field during Christmas makes it worse.
- Pray for Caleb and Daniel as they have so many big changes happening.
- Pray for the shop during another upcoming transition.
- Pray for Jeremy's PNG'n friend Jeff who recently opened an auto repair shop. Businesses here have different cultural pressures. It's challenging to keep a business going here.
Thank you for your prayer, gifts and encouragement,
Jeremy, Tanya, Caleb, Daniel, Seth, and Steven
